Add or extract the GST/HST component of one CAD amount. Choose the place of supply and treatment separately.

GST/HST only. This is not a complete Canadian sales-tax total. Separate PST and QST are excluded; professional tax review is pending.

Choose the independently determined place of supply and treatment. No rate is selected automatically.

Supported reference window: 1 April 2025–18 October 2026. Earlier/future dates and transitional transactions are not calculated. The date does not determine when tax becomes payable.

How to add or remove GST/HST

Add tax: GST/HST = before-tax amount × rate ÷ 100. Reverse: GST/HST = GST/HST-only amount × rate ÷ (100 + rate). Round the tax component to cents first, exact half-cents up, then reconcile the other amount.

GST/HST is not always the full sales-tax charge. In British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Quebec, this tool excludes the separate provincial component. Do not extract GST from a receipt that includes PST or QST using a GST-only denominator.

Scope, dates and unsupported cases

Reference window: 1 April 2025–18 October 2026. The starting date is the supported CRA table period, not the original introduction date of every rate. Nova Scotia's 14% reference follows the 1 April 2025 change; timing and transition rules require separate assessment.

Place of supply is not necessarily your home address or the seller's location. The tool does not determine registration, eligibility, point-of-sale rebates, provincial taxes, cash-payment rounding, imports, special supplies, multi-line invoices, credits or returns. Exempt and outside-scope selections clear results rather than becoming zero-rated.

RC4022's worked discounted subtotal is an independent arithmetic fixture. We do not implement its discount rules. Derived reverse examples and synthetic cent boundaries are labelled separately.
